Here goes my toastmaster speech article

  • I am One of the wonderful hazards inventions of 20th Century
  • I  am most cost effective
  • I am most wanted in every one’s life and
  • I am the one without any end.

My fellow toastmaster and guest any Guess… Yes I am “Plastic”

Ubiquitous material replaced the traditional material like paper/cloth/Jute as packing and carry bags.

India has witnessed a substantial growth in the consumption of plastics because of cost of convenience. And resulted in increase in Plastic waste.

Piece of paper — 2-4 months.
Cloth-- 6-8 months.
Disposable diaper — 10-20 years
    Nylon fabric — 30-40 years
Plastic bottle — *Indefinite

Plastic is non bio-degradable and slow poisons to environment for decades..

"We are sitting on a plastic time bomb," the Supreme Court said after the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) informed it that
India generates 56 Lakh tonnes of plastic waste annually,

Chennai has less than half the population of Mumbai, but
“Chennai “generates more plastic waste (429 tonnes) every day than the Mumbai (421 tonnes).
Chennai's generation of plastic is second only to New Delhi, which generates 689 tonnes of plastic a day.
Delhi's area is nearly four times that of Chennai and has more than double Chennai's population of 6.5 million. Chennai is metro contributing high waste in considering area and population.

Increase in plastic waste & littering mainly due to
1. (Failed Management system) No proper recycling system.
2. Another One is “Throw away culture".
Recycling:-
"Total plastic waste which is collected and recycled in the country is estimated approximately 60% of total plastic waste 40% remains uncollected and littered,"

40% of 56 lack tonnes/year… I am leaving to your imaginations….
The recycling of plastic waste creates both Economic and Environmental benefits.
  • Ø  Recycling keep plastic out of landfills
  • Ø  Reduces the strain on natural resources that are used to make new plastic.

The let me explain you hazards plastics “Throw away culture”

1. Land gets littered by plastic bag garbage presenting an ugly and unhygienic seen.
2. These bags finding their way in to the city drainage system, the resulting blockage,
Resulting in health hazard and spreading of water borne diseases. Like malaria etc..
3. This littering also reduces rate of rain water percolating, resulting in lowering an already low water levels in our cities.
4. The soil fertility effects as the plastic bags as remain in the soil for years.
5. Animals & marine species misunderstanding plastic garbage as food items swallow them and die.
Recent example:-Nation geographic channel a cow operated extracted 53Kg of plastic…

Even Human beings suffering plastic inside stomach. Those who have road side hot tea habit…
Tea cups melting, we are swallowing without knowingly.

Just understand the damage we creating to environment and those poor animals cont speck express their pain.
Awareness:-
Prevention is better than cure..

  • Ø  Request every one use eco friendly bags and Personal bags.
  • Ø  Don’t accept or take plastic bags from retailer stores and shops.
  • Ø  At least don’t follow “throw away culture”.

For example
Everyone getting milk in milk packets Save them in a bin and handover to municipality or else
Recently few NGO and communities started like THOKIKUPAM.COM
Just one call away they take all your waste and they will pay for you.. if you don’t want to sell you can give it free of cost

With all this we are giving more pain to Dear Mother Earth...

My dear Earth…
Thank you for giving us all we need to exist, and so much more.

I would like to apologize on behalf of humanity for the toxic plastic waste that litters your skin, waterways and organs.

People are now waking up and realizing how serious a problem this is.

Thank you, and with Love from Life without Plastic

I am dream about a plastic free house/free nation/India.
